Workplace Connections

Internships are a great spring board into the real world, but like a spring board the more energy you put in the farther you will go.

Employers prefer to hire job applicants with work experience. Yet, it is often difficult for students to gain valuable work-based learning insight while attending college and balancing additional responsibilities. However, there are a variety of activities students can engage in to connect to the workplace, build their job skills, enhance their resumes and grow their networks.

Internships, informational interviews, volunteer experiences and part-time jobs are all excellent opportunities for students to grow their workplace connections. While these experiences can be challenging to find, student memberships in Professional Associations are one of the best ways to initiate connections and access the world of work.

Encourage your students to bridge this gap between the classroom and the workplace. Introduce them to these strategies for getting a foot in the door, beginning with these Workplace Connections QTs.
